Cl. Debussy - Sonate

I. Stravinsky- Trois pièces
B. Bartok - Contrasts
A. Berg - Vier Stücke, Op.5
F. Neyrinck - New composition for violin solo (2013)
I. Stravinsky - Suite L’Histoire du Soldat

The First World War was one of the cruellest in the history. Yet, it did not prevent some composers from looking for a valve to their need for creation. This particular period was an ideal ground for the emergence of a new sound world.

Alban Berg bursts the musical tradition in his atonal opus 5 and Béla Bartók works his own language, inspired by the Hungarian folk music. As they were sometimes obliged to work with smaller distributions, Igor Stravinsky and Claude Debussy have composed some of their most genial chamber music works.

The young composer Frederik Neyrinck responds with his new work for solo violin. This diversity fits the Odysseia Ensemble very well. The musicians execute those masterpieces with personality and enthusiasm, and give so the guaranty of a unique concert.

The idea of this intimate chamber music programme was to create a reflection of time. Works of well-known masters are presented first in mirror, and then confronted with contemporary works. To exploit the full potential of the transitions, contrasts and dialogues between the different works, they will be executed one after the other without interruption.

The heart of this programme consists of the Lied “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” by Franz Schubert, the Lieder composer par excellence.

Around this heart turn the realizations of the great master Wolfgang Rihm, a contemporary German composer; Rihm shows us the other possibilities offered by such a distribution. Luc Brewaeys and Jose Maria Sanchez-Verdù are two other protagonists in the world of modern music represented in this concert. The composer of the Odysseia Ensemble, Frederik Neyrinck, has, once more, foreseen a new work for this programme; this work is based on the sounds and echoes of the "Fleurs du mal” by Charles Baudelaire.
