This Lieder programme is developed around Mignon. Mignon is a character of the book ‘Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjare’, by one of the greatest writers of the 18th-19th centuries : Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

All along the book, Mignon sings 4 Lieder, which, during the concert, are executed in their contexts. Those texts have been a source of inspiration for many composers. Schubert alone has composed two different musical versions for each poem. But those texts have not only inspired German composers. Others have been inspired by the translations, like Tchaikovsky or Gounod. In our regions too, the text ‘Kennst du das Land’ has found a Flemish translation and a musical expression with Lodewijk Mortelmans.
